WWP Itinerary

Alright everyone, as the time gets closer and closer we need to be getting prepared for World Work Place. Whether it be preparing for the E-Posters or just getting ready for a good time. Look over the ITINERARY and make sure that you plan out your week or at least have an idea of what you want to get done so that you can make the most out of it.

Make sure as you plan you take the time to go to Dr. Campbell's Presentation as well as support Dr. Burr who is presenting with Nate Wade. (Both of these are noted on the calendar)

We look forward to being down there with all of you!!

The opening social turned out to be a HUGE Success.  Thanks to all the people who were in charge.  Especially the veggie burgers!!!   There was a raffel of 6 game tickets to the UCLA Game (which we slaughtered them), along with shirts, waterbottles, and even a Beauty and the Beast Soundtrack.

Example Itinerary for October 14^th- October 18^th 2008

October 14^th: Travel via bus to SLC Airport, fly to Dallas, TX

October 15^th-17^th: Participate in WWP including classes and seminars (see list below)

October 18^th: Fly to SLC, travel via bus to Provo

Dates to remember:

August 1^st: Confirmation deadline to let us know if you're planning to be at WWP

August 15^th: All paperwork and money must be with Lisa Reynolds in 223 of the Snell Building

Cost Breakdown:

$195 is registration fee for WWP conference

$255: includes hotel stay in Dallas for 4 nights, plane tickets to and from SLC to Dallas, other travel

TOTAL: $450

You will still need some spending money for a few meals throughout the conference. The conference pays for most of the meals, but any not provided, the individual must pay for their own meals.

Few points Dr. Campbell would like emphasize:

You cannot participate in WWP If you are on Academic Suspension or have an Honor Code issue at BYU

The trip is NOT a vacation to Dallas --- you must participate in the entire conference

We go as a group, we come home as a group. You need to stay with the group from Provo to Provo. (Talk to Dr. Campbell individually if you have special concerns)

If you don't pay by August 15^th, you don't go.

Additional information:

Spouses are welcome to come, but must pay the entire $900, since the school is paying half of our fees, and the spouse is not in the program, they must pay the full price. If you do decide to bring your spouse, we must know at all the same information by the same deadlines and will need to know about the rooming preference.

BYU Teams take 1rst and 3rd in National Skanska Competition!

On January 17, two teams from the BYU Facility & Property Management Program earned top awards from an annual competition put on by Skanska, a leading construction company in the United States.

One of the teams consisted of Mike Allsop, Kirk Howcroft, Bryan Jolley, and JP Andersen (shown in order from left to right). Their team earned first place in this competition, which included a cash prize of $4,000. Their team addressed the issue of designing the ideal emergency department and healthcare facility that could respond to an infectious disease outbreak disaster. They came up with an innovative hospital design that would have the competence and aptitude to manage airborne pandemics. Their solution was an ingenious, mirror design template that can be applied to new hospital construction. Their hospital design utilizes a creative air supply system as well. This system uses 100% fresh air (instead of the average of 20%) and thus, effectively removes contamination from the air.

The other team consisted of Daniel Smith, Justin Bohon, Daniel Hunter, and Sam Kelly (shown in order from left to right). Their team took third place in the competition and earned a $1,000 cash prize. The issue that their team addressed was that of considering the design of the ideal patient-room and how to incorporate that design into new and existing hospitals. Their solution was an innovative and ideal patient room that, when implemented, will make hospitals much more hospitable. Their research and final presentation included a rendered floor plan of the patient room, the aesthetic capabilities, the technology features, the included services that this design has, the elements of green building that it incorporates, the environment considerations, safety, and different perspectives of this ideal design.

Both teams expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the chance to have had this experience to compete. Although no university class credit was received for competing, both teams eagerly expressed that they would participate in this competition again in a heartbeat. Both teams wish to articulate their appreciation to Skanska once more for this wonderful opportunity to learn and to have had such a great time in this event!
